Syna and Galen strongly remind me of the 2 lead characters in my favorite Sci-Fi TV series FarScape...couldn't get enough of FarScape and the same goes for Hearts and Minds. Would really enjoy another story about Syna and Galen, both are strong, intelligent, and passionate about everything. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a well written story, great world building, and characters that leap off the page. JC Hay's writing is like having a live video/movie before your eyes as you read the words. Don't miss reading this one!Product details

Space pirate Syna Davout takes a commission for a basic smash-and-grab to pay for much-needed repairs on her ship. But when a second ship appears on the scene, she realizes that she was the diversion in an assassination attempt. Psi-talent Galen Fash is a leader of the rebellion against the Tse who exploit and demonize all Psi's. When Syna rescues Galen from his wrecked ship, she is drawn into his plot to avert a Tse invasion and save his fledgling rebellion from being crushed.
Galen's Psi-talent won't let him ignore Syna's passionate nature and soon the pair are exchanging more than just banter. Even hand-to-hand combat training burns more than just pent up energy. But is Syna willing to trade her precious freedom for Galen's cause, and risk losing another lover to the hands of the Tse?
Hearts and Minds by JC Hay packs an intense one-two punch of fast-paced Sci Fi action layered with emotion as Syna and Galen struggle together through a richly layered galaxy with surprise twists that will leave you begging for more.
I love this book! It has a strong female lead, and supportive and hold his own man. With awesome world building, you can't go wrong with this great read!
Heat level sensual, and mostly behind doors.
Reasons not a five star
Would have loved more info on why using brain power causes nose bleeds, and more thought tracking on why the heroine changed her mind on disliking thr hero.
Five stars for the killer action scenes!
As a sucker for sci-fi, I found that this novella was tightly written, well-executed, and had a great space-opera feel. I think fans of the genre will appreciate the classic elements here
The Hegemony - a big bad alien organization that is trying to control the universe
Syna - the subversive tough-as-nails ship captain. So far the best female Han Solo type character I've come across
Awesome weaponry - ceramic needle shooting guns, monomolecular blades (Johnny Mnemonic anyone?), all sorts of cool
The story moves fast and with each page you learn more about the world and technology surrounding it. As I was reading it, I was feeling ripples of Dune, Serenity, Star Wars & William Gibson all rolled in here, but it worked. It's like a Rocky Road of science fiction -- so many great tastes that taste great together.
